Description
Perlite is a great solution for substrates of your plants. It is a granulate natural obtained from thermo-expanded volcanic rocks. It has excellent properties suitable for the cultivation of various plant species
CHARACTERISTICS AND USES OF PERLITE
? mixed with soils (even those that already contain it on the market but only to an extent of 10%
approximately) in shares from 15% to 30% depending on the plants cultivated and the type of irrigation and improves drainage avoiding excess water and fungal diseases;
? thanks to its particular porosity (95%), it increases the entry of air, this greater contribution of
oxygen allows a vigorous and fast development of the root system;
? being very light and porous, when used in high percentages, it also acts as an insulator
inside the pot, protecting the roots from temperature changes (too cold or too hot);
? it has a neutral pH and is a sterile inorganic material, which makes it a difficult substrate
attackable by insects and soil diseases;
? perlite is an inert which makes it ideal for soilless cultivation (since the exchange is zero
ionic) does not interact with nutritional solutions and, as already mentioned, has a low retention
hydro, it is ideal for drop by drop hydroponic systems;
? widely used, pure or even mixed, for cutting operations, for the propagation of plants
succulents and orchid cultivation;
? another factor not to be underestimated, is that, compared to other aggregates such as pumice or lapillus, it is very light (50 L. = less than 5 Kg.) therefore this involves facilitations in logistics and an easy transport for the final customer.
